Financial Assistance Schemes

The Board is implementing financial assistance scheme like Coir Udyami Yojana & Coir Vikas Yojana in Coir sector in all coconut growing States/UT’s. The details of the schemes are given below.

Coir Udyami Yojana

             Coir Board under the Ministry of MSME has been implementing the Central Sector Scheme viz. Coir Udyami Yojana (formerly known as REMOT Scheme) in the coir sector during XI Plan period onwards. This is a credit linked subsidy scheme. The Scheme provides assistance for setting up of any type of coir units. The maximum admissible cost of project under the Scheme is up to Rs.10 lakhs plus working capital, which shall not exceed 25% of the project cost. The pattern of assistance under the scheme is 40% of the project cost as Govt. Of India subsidy, 55% as loan from Banks and 5% as beneficiary contribution. Scheme for the Development of Production Infrastructure under Coir Vikas Yojana

Under the Scheme-Development of Production Infrastructure the Board is extending financial assistance for setting up of coir units and modernisation of existing units. Under the scheme the board is extending subsidy to the tune of 25% of the cost of equipments and other infrastructural facilities subject to a maximum of Rs.6 lakhs for setting up of defibering unit, Rs.4 lakh for Automatic Spinning Unit and Rs. 5 lakh for others. For a composite or a multiple unit the maximum ceiling of assistance would be Rs. 9 lakh. In the case of modernisation of existing unit the subsidy will be limited to 25% of the coast of modernisation equipments and infrastructural facilities subject to a maximum of Rs.2 lakh.

Skill Up gradation & Mahila Coir Yojana Under Coir Vikas Yojana

Under the scheme the Board is conducting various programmes like Entrepreneurship Development Programme, Awareness Programme, Workshop, Seminar, Exposure Tour, etc. For attracting more entrepreneurs to start coir processing units. In order to create skilled man power required for the coir Industry the Board is implementing various value added products training programmes. The candidates undergoing these training programmes are given a monthly stipend amounting to Rs.1000/- per month.

The Board is conducting training programme under “ Mahila Coir Yojana” scheme which is an exclusive for rural women artisans. Under the scheme training is given in spinning of coir yarn/ various coir processing activities to rural women in regions producing coir fibre in the country. The scheme envisages distribution of motorized rats/motorized traditional rats and other coir processing equipments which can be operated by women at 75% subsidy after completion of the 2 months training programme. The training under MCY are conducted through all training centres of the Board. During the training period, the women artisans are given stipend amounting Rs.1000 per month. The trained women are given motorised ratt/ motorised traditional ratt and other coir processing equipments which can be operated by women at 75% subsidy subject to a maximum of Rs.7500/-.
